Polly Apfelbaum« 1955 in Abbington, Pennsylvania, lebt in New York Es ist der Fleck an sich, aus dem Polly Apfelbaum ihre Werke schafft: Farbe wird auf Stoff getropft, ausgeschnitten und dann meist ohne erkennbare Ordnung auf dem Fußboden ausgebreitet. Über ihre Werke sagt die Künstlerin: 6quot;Diese Arbeiten sind Hybride, positioniert zwischen Malerei und Skulptur. Es sind Arbeiten, die nicht so sehr versuchen, neue Kategorien zu schaffen, sondern funktionieren, indem sie unverschämt und unkonventionell in scheinbar wohl definierten Gefilden wildern." Erfrischend respektlos mischt Polly Apfelbaum die genialische Geste des Abstrakten Expressionismus und die konzeptuelle Strenge des Minimalismus, um sie durch ironische Brechung in ihr genaues Gegenteil zu verkehren. |
