David Rabinowitch« 1943 in Toronto, lebt in New York David Rabinowitch war auf der Suche nach dem "Nullpunkt" der Skulptur. Als er Anfang der 60er Jahre begann, sich mit den physikalischen Grundbedin-gungen von Kunst zu beschäftigen, wollte er Skulptur als Skulptur, vollkommen frei von jeglichen Bezügen auf Figur oder Architektur. Mit den "Field Phalanxes" war der radikale Schnitt erreicht: Diese Skulpturen entstanden durch einfaches Ausbreiten von verzinkten Eisenblechen auf der Erde. Als einer der ersten Künstler machte er so den Einfluss der Schwerkraft auf das Material sichtbar. Für die Göttinger Ausstellung rekonstruiert David Rabinowitch eine Variante dieser Werkgruppe mit gefalteten Blechen. Im Gegensatz zu den übrigen "Field Phalanxes" bezieht sich diese Arbeit nicht auf einen unebenen Untergrund und kann deswegen auch in Innenräumen installiert werden. |
« 1943 in Toronto, lives in New York David Rabinowitch was on the search for the zero-point of sculpture. At the beginning of his career in the sixties, he was concerned with the physical conditions of art, in an attemp to free sculpture from any associations to the figurative or architectural form. With his "Field Phalanxes" a radical cut was made. These sculptures were generated by the simple spread of sunken iron patches upon the ground. And thus Rabinowitch became one of the first artists to emphasise the influence of gravity with his materials. For the exhibition at Göttingen, David Rabinowitch will construct a variation of this theme with folded pieces of sheet-metal. In contrast to other versions of the "Field Phalanxes", this work is not restricted to the uneven surfaces of the earth, but can also be installed in an inner-space. | ||
